FabShop Remote Working Information

Working in remote locations with FabShop can be easy to achieve. Please talk to your company's FabShop administrator or IT administrator to find out the best method to work remotely.

Remote WOrking Instructions For

Trimble FabShop

The Trimble Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Division is pleased to provide assistance for setting up a remote office environment in order to use Trimble FabShop which is installed within your company network.



Home Office Requirements

In order to successfully run Trimble FabShop from your home office environment, the following requirements must be met:

  • Internet connection
  • Virtual Private Network (VPN), remote access, or an equivalent connection method which to connect to your company network

AND

  • Remote Desktop Access to your office computer must be enabled (Recommended)

OR

Virtual Private Network (VPN)



There are many different types of VPN software and setups. The proper selection of VPN software and setup of the software should be completed by a Information Technology professional who can ensure proper installation and security measures are in place. Trimble cannot recommend specific VPN software, however, in general any standard VPN software setup properly should provide the necessary connectivity.

Remote Desktop Access (Recommended)



Using the Trimble FabShop software via Remote Desktop will provide the most seamless experience. You will be using the same computer, desktop, and software, which you are accustomed to using.



In order to take advantage of this functionality you must meet the following requirements:

  • Virtual Private Network Connection to your office network; described above
  • Remote Desktop Access enabled on your office computer.
    • Microsoft has outlined the steps required to setup remote desktop access here
  • Internet Connectivity



Once the above requirements have been met, please log into the VPN connection and use the Remote Desktop application on your home computer. To access FabShop on your remote desktop by following the directions outlined here.



You should now be able to log into and use FabShop as if you were sitting in front of your office computer.

Installing Trimble FabShop At Home Standalone (Not Recommended)



Using the Trimble FabShop software as a Standalone installation at home will provide the ability to run the software, however will not permit the software to communicate with any equipment directly.



In order for the a stand alone set up to be completed, the following is required:

  • USB License Key
  • FabShop Standalone (database and client) installed on your computer
    • The steps for downloading, installing, and setting up the latest version should be followed per the latest FabShop release email
  • A backup of the FabShop Database
    • The steps for creating a database backup can be found in the Upgrade Info document per the latest FabShop release email



Once the above requirements have been met, you will need to set up the following:

Ensure the database has been properly restored

The USB license key must be plugged into your home computer



You should now be able to login and use FabShop. Your cut files will be placed in the Cut File Folder.
